Patient Information

Congratulations on receiving your Hemosure one step FIT. Hemosure FIT is a rapid test for detecting blood in stool. Blood in stool maybe an indication of colon rectal cancer. Screening for occult blood  is a helpful aid in screening of CRC. Screening is the process of looking for possible signs of cancer in people  who have no symptoms of disease. CRC is one of the most treatable cancers.  Screening for blood in the stool is an indicator of possible disease. Early detection of possible disease is a powerful weapon in disease control.

The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 140,000 people will be diagnosed with CRC (Colorectal  Cancer) in 2012, and nearly 50,000 people will die from the disease. Screening allows colorectal cancer (CRC) to be detected  early, when the disease is easier to treat.

The Hemosure (FIT), also called an immunochemical fecal occult blood test (iFOBT), is a newer kind of test that also detects occult (hidden) blood in the  stool. This test reacts to part of the human hemoglobin protein, which is found in red blood cells.

The FIT is done essentially the same way as the FOBT, but you may find it easier to use because there are no drug or dietary restrictions (vitamins or foods do not affect the FIT) and sample collection will be simple and easy for you to do in the comfort of your own home.

Included in you patient collection kit you will find the following items that you will want to have ready and in one place before you start the collection process.
